Kim Ruchti started working in the field of software design and development at GE Healthcare. While in the two-year technical leadership development program at GE, she worked on a variety of software projects for products in CT, PET, MR and in the Field Service organization. During the last 6 months of the program, Kim began working on a project at GE to pilot the user-centered design process. She conducted usability tests and designed and prototyped user interfaces. Kim quickly became recognized as a user interface and user-centered design expert within GE. Since 1994, she has specialized in user interface design and usability.
At GE Healthcare, Kim held the positions of User Interface Team Leader and Senior Project Manager for User Interface. While in those roles, Kim did extensive training in the areas of user-centered design and user interface design. Kim also performed heuristic reviews of products within GE and developed a style specification to encourage user interface consistency among products.
With extensive field research spanning different areas of medical imaging, user types, and geographical locations, the team designed a user interface to be used across GE products. We developed a framework to offer consistency, ease of use, and a satisfying user experience ó with the ultimate goal of providing
better patient care.
At GE Healthcare, Kim conducted extensive user research for global medical equipment. Her experience included focus groups, usability testing, and user analysis with users from the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Kim also conducted field visits in hospitals and imaging centers throughout the United States and Asia.
Kim has a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Marquette University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering.
