Mike has crafted design solutions for a wide spectrum of clients in varied design disciplines. He always begins by first understanding the challenge at hand, then works to create a design solution that solves the problem.
Sketching is at the heart of Mike's design process. This visual thinking skill provides him the freedom to explore multiple design ideas, which he shares with clients and colleagues.
Mike is an expert at turning sketch concepts into complete, integrated user interface and user experience design solutions for mobile, web and software applications.
Mike loves to create simple, clear, and understandable icons, while working within small pixel sizes and with limited color palettes. He has created app icons and in-app icons for iOS, Mac OS X, Windows and dedicated software platforms.
Mike uses his approach of sketches to final digital artwork to capture the essence of a company in the simplest, clearest way. He has created identities for over one hundred firms and individuals, with an emphasis in the tech and software industry.
Mike's illustration work has been featured in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling business book REWORK, and remote working book REMOTE from Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson; Chris Guillebeau's Bestselling book The $100 Startup and Daniel Coyle's The Little Book of Talent.
Mike is the author of the popular Sketchnote Handbook, a how-to manual of techniques that can amplify regular text notes with drawings, hand-drawn type, icons and active listening skills. He has also provided his live sketchnoting services for events at GE, Summit Series, Leadercast, SXSW Interactive, An Event Apart, JESS3 and SEED Conference.
