We collaborated with Inspiration Software to design a new user interface for their popular mind-mapping and visual learning program called Inspiration 7. As always, we began by creating elaborate user profiles to capture the key characteristics and patterns of use of the target audience (students grade 6 to adult). To capture the Inspiration brand, we established clear visual goals for the new product — it had to be modern, artistic, simple, and fun.
Here's what Innovation Tools, a popular publication about the best software resources for innovation, creativity, and brainstorming, said about the product's interface:
"Inspiration 7 features a slick new interface that feels fresh and more creative than previous versions. The program's toolbar is rendered in a rounded bevel that is eye-catching and functional, and it contains a set of context-sensitive icons that are simple and easy to use."

We designed icons for new tools to enhance productivity. For example, adding notes to any idea is accomplished with a single click. A new formatting toolbar allows users to edit in context without navigating elsewhere. And, finally, the outlining tools for managing ideas help users show and hide information and related notes.
Innovation Tools describes the interface as follows:
"Inspiration Software has made several improvements to the user interface that should significantly increase your productivity. Most notably, the formatting toolbar now contains text formatting tools, and the outline toolbar includes a Notes icon so you can add a note with a single click. The outline view contains icons that allow you to quickly and easily expand or contract outline branches, as well as show or hide notes. These new outline management tools are more intuitive than earlier versions."
